Kiearrok

CAM00009-1.jpg

The kiearrok are a race desended from large, flightless, predatory, arboreal avians. They stand a bit taller than humans on average, have sharp beaks, clawed feet, short tails, and are covered in feathers.
Plumage ranges from mottled black and gray to frosty white. Males have long mane like plumage on their heads, but females feathers are all short.
Kiearrok are a generaly fair minded people. The key to their racial mentality is their innate sense of teratoriality, both in preserving and protecting what is theirs, and respecting what is someone else’s. Kiearrok are loath to intrude uppon others without permission and quick to rile at unwanted trespassers. Both literaly and figuratively.
Fortunately for the Alliance, this makes the kiearrok inclined to be supporters of sapient rights and liberties while at the same time strong opponents of opression and tyranny.
The kiearrok were a powerful and influential race when they helped co-found the Alliance over two thousand years ago and in that time they have been staunch supporters of the Alliance politically, ecconomically, and with their much renouned military forces.
Everyone on this side of the galaxy knows the kiearrok and nearly everyone either respects or despises them for one reason or another.
Except for a few seperatist colonies, the kiearrok sphere is a colection of many small local governments that seem nearly identicle in form and policies, which are part of a strong coalition that handles most interstellar matters including diplomacy, ecconomics, regulations, and the military. Coalition leaders are selected by resume and ratified by coalition council votes, then serve for as long as they retain confidence with the council and the citizenry. The kiearrok essentially hire and fire their own leaders.
This system is not as chaotic as it might seem were humans to adopt a scimilar style. Thanks to their racial mentality kiearrok don’t like to stick their beaks in on their leaders’ personal lives and they don’t get as riled up about social issues since thoes are mostly personal and handled mainly on the local level if need be. Government is just there to do a job and the kiearrok are mainly just interested in the numbers.
Currently the kiearrok civilization is in decline. They still support the Alliance, but their ecconomic and political power and influence has been slowly yet steadily bleeding away to newer industries and political movements in the galaxy such as Strahdcorp and the CGSR (Council for Galactic Security and Reform).
This down turn has even embittered a small but growing insular faction among the kiearrok who wish to withdraw most of their support from non-kiearrok endeavors across the galaxy to shore up their own worlds.
If this were to happen it would deprive the Alliance of some of the staunchest supporters of the tennants of the Alliance Charter.
